Haarrijnse plas

This lake is also known as Leidsche Rijn aan Zee. It's wonderful to spend a day here on the large sandy beach. You can also enjoy a swim. The water is clean, because motorboats are not allowed here. Why go to the coast when you can come here?


Tip: You can enjoy a nice drink on the terrace at Key West Beachhouse.

Máximapark

The vast Máximapark lies at the heart of the built-up area between Leidsche Rijn and Vleuten De Meern. A peaceful yet lively park that is as large as Utrecht's city centre. It is a meeting place where everyone can walk, cycle, play sports, picnic, play, sail and, of course, enjoy themselves. In the middle of the park is the Bosspeeltuin, a place where children can play together and do their own thing.


Tip: Take a walk through Het Vlinderhof, a special garden in the Binnenhof of Máximapark.

Haar­zuilens Es­ta­te

Cycle or walk in the traditional Dutch nature reserve of Landgoed Haarzuilens. This estate is located near our hotel and is ideal for a day out, with or without children. The estate is over 600 years old and also features the authentic Kasteel de Haar castle. The historic avenues and paths offer views of beautiful flower-filled meadows, old fields and pastures of Klein Limburg.


Tip: You can picnic and pick fruit in the De Boswachter orchard.

Julianapark

Julianapark is one of the oldest city parks in Utrecht, located in the Zuilen district. The park is known for its lush vegetation and extensive sunbathing areas. You can enjoy a walk or picnic in the park. There is also a petting zoo, where chickens are allowed to roam freely on the grounds. Fun events and festivals are regularly held in the park.


Tip: Fun workshops, such as a guitar or painting workshop, are regularly organised at the Antje Drijver Pavilion in the park.

Loosdrechtse Plassen

The Loosdrecht Lakes are a large water sports and nature reserve consisting of six different lakes: the Wijde Blik, the Loenderveense Plas, the Vuntus, the Eerste to Vijfde Plas and the Breukeleveense Plas (also known as the Stille Plas). Water sports are possible in various areas of the lakes. Rowing, canoeing, stand-up paddleboarding, sailing, motorboating, windsurfing, wakeboarding, water skiing, pedal boating... you can do it all here! Do you prefer the peace and quiet of nature? The Vuntus and Breukeleveense Plas are home to many aquatic plants and birds. Another fun activity is cycling around the Loosdrechtse Plassen!


Tip: Rent a canoe at the Wijde Blik and sail among the water lilies and discover unusual birds.

Vecht

The Vecht river runs alongside the Loosdrechtse Plassen. The best way to discover the Vecht is by sloop. You can easily rent one through De Eerste Aanleg. Renting is very easy and possible for as little as two hours. When you board, you will receive a short instruction. You will also receive a map with your chosen route. Because the boats are easy to use, you don't even need a boating licence! If you would like to try out the boat first, this is also possible. It's extra fun to choose a route that takes you to both the Loosdrechtse Plassen and the Vecht!

Utrecht Botanic Gardens

The Botanical Gardens of Utrecht University are located on the outskirts of the city and were laid out on and around the 19th-century Fort Hoofddijk. Here you will find the most beautiful plants from all over the world in a number of sub-gardens, such as the largest rock garden in Europe and the Evolution Garden, which shows the development of the plant kingdom. The Tropical Greenhouses house plants from warmer regions, including orchids, and during the Butterfly Festival you can admire the most beautiful tropical butterflies. The Discovery Garden is full of plant stories and next to it you will find the Bee Hotel, designed for native butterflies and other insects, and the Bird Hut where you can watch birds up close.


Tip: Tuincafé Botanica at the entrance has a lovely terrace, and there is also a small shop in the same building.

Utrechtse Heuvelrug

In the middle of the province of Utrecht lies the largest forest in the Randstad, namely the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. Here you can wander through nature for hours, enjoy the view from various vantage points or even soak up some culture in historic villages. The Utrechtse Heuvelrug National Park is an oasis of peace, nature and landscapes. Castles, forests, museums, everything can be found here. The Pyramid of Austerlitz is also located here. Ideal for exploring by bike or on foot.
